Scene 1
Amy: What did you learn at school today sweetie?
Narrator: Amy is Wilbur’s mom and mostly stays at home and runs errands all day.
Wilbur: I learned about the Stamp Act and how it affected the colonists. Wanna hear about it?
Amy: Sure!
Narrator: Wilbur is a wise 5th grader who loves to learn.
Wilbur: (thinking) Well, it all started on March 22, 1765. Britain was in a huge debt from the war and they needed more money, so what they do is tax the colonists for every paper item they buy, like newspapers, legal documents, and playing cards. None of the American Colonies were included in the Parliament's representatives, so they thought it was very unfair. They called it Taxation Without Representation. …show more content…
Look at the time! It’s time for you to go to bed.
Wilbur: (tucking himself in bed) Good night!
Wilbur: (snoring)
Scene 2
[A colonist’s house after work]
Doug: (annoyed) DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE NEW STAMP ACT?!
[Doug slamming the door]
Narrator: Doug is a hunter in his colony and loves his 5 children.
Josiphine: (worried) No Honey. What is it? And try not to wake up Carolina. She’s sleeping.
Narrarator: Josiphine is a sweet lady who loves her family dearly
Doug: (still annoyed) The headline on the news is “King of Britain starts Stamp Act”. The King of Britain is making us pay for stamps with any paper items we buy! He calls them taxes. The American colonies didn’t even get a say in it because none of us are in the Parliament! It’s stupid!
[Lily and Mikey come in]
Lily and Mikey: (loudly) We’re home!
Josiphine: Shh. The baby’s sleeping.
Lily: Oh. Sorry.
Narrator: Lily is a sweet and athletic girl who is 7-years-old and her twin is Mikey.
Mikey: What’s wrong dad?
Narrator: Mikey is a super sweet and athletic boy who is 7-years-old and his twin is Lily.
Doug: (still annoyed) Oh. It’s about money. You guys wouldn’t understand.
Josiphine: How about you kids go into your room.
Lily: …show more content…
Lily and Mikey: (ashamed) Yes.
Josiphine: (sighing) Ok. You can.
Mikey: I think that we need to stand up to the king! We can’t just let him do this to us!
Lily: Yeah! We need a plan
Doug: The only problem is that if we tell him he’ll either ignore us or just say no and shoo us away!
Mikey: (mischievously) I never said we had to talk to him
[The next day at the meetinghouse]
Scene 3
Colonists: (Random chatter and yelling)
Meeting Leader: (shouting and determined) Listen up! To get rid of the Stamp Act, we have decided to not buy any paper items. If we do this the king won’t be getting any of the taxes from us. So remember, don’t buy any paper items until this madness is over!
Colonists: (yelling) Yeah! No more madness!
Doug: Good job with the idea son.
Josiphine: We're proud of you.
Lily: (raising her hand) I have something to say.
Meeting Leader: Yes?
[Lily walks to the front]
Lily: (determined) I think that along with not buying any paper, we should make effigies of the Stamp Agents, hang them on trees, and burn them, so they get scared and won’t sell stamps anymore! Then the Stamp Act will stop for sure!
Colonists:
