Everyone knows what they have to contribute to keep order, and all it takes is one person to end it all. “‘If we let shanks like you get away with that stuff,’ Alby said, ‘we never would’ve survived this long. Keepers, get ready.’”(Dashner 94) This is one example of how the Gladers have set rules and punishments. They are willing to do whatever is necessary to keep what order they have even if it means banishing their own people. Order is easy to maintain but once chaos take over chaos must complete it process for there to be order once again. Things in the Glade get very chaotic once Thomas arrives. Soon after he arrives Thomas is almost killed and then he brakes one of the Glades most important rules: Do not go into the Maze unless you are a runner. “...but Newt, you’re the one always harping about order. If we don’t punish him, we’ll set a bad example. He broke our Number One Rule.” (Dashner 155) After Thomas ran into the maze to help Alby and Minho the Glade became bewildered and distracted. The council hopes to return order to the Glade by using Thomas as an example so other gladers don’t start getting themselves
