In “Learning to Read”, Malcolm X shares the story of how he acquired self-education during imprisonment. The author manifests on how substantial and beneficial reading and learning are in life, how freeing they can be. “My Educational Experience” by Ivette Dubiel showcases a struggling girl with a fragmented education and constant change throughout her life. Despite all the obstacles that Dubiel endured, she persevered; the author exhibits that not everything in life is going to be effortless and giving up is not a choice. Rebecca Cox’s The College Fear Factor, discusses different coping methods that freshman college students use to overcome college obstacles. Scaling back, redefining success and failure, and avoiding any formal assessment were the used coping methods. This experience that has made an influence on my education immensely was desisting from procrastinating. The significance behind refraining from procrastinating was how liberating it felt when finishing my school work in advance and not worrying about the consequences that procrastinating brings. I realized by procrastinating in my school work, I would remain unhappy and anxious, making it not worth it. Also, procrastinating instills the feeling of carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders, and it often held me back from committing to activities that I normally enjoyed. Hence, I came to the conclusion that I would refrain from procrastinating as it takes away my happiness. One way I utilized to overcome this problem was blocking websites or apps that distracted me while trying to complete my assignments. There are various websites that block specific pages and apps that were created specifically for people who procrastinate on a frequent basis. Also, I would simply write down all primary goals and assign a deadline or reward myself for the adequate progress of studying and finishing homework. Lastly, studying at a library or work environment was a major incentive to successfully completing all my schoolwork due to the limited amount of distractions around me.
