“Critics believe, however, that allowing these devices will only encourage their non-educational use in school, to the point where they will be a significant distraction for teachers and students and a potential tool for cheating” (Kiema). Although some teachers agree with the school policy of students not bringing their cell phones to school, there are still many teachers that are in agreement with students having cell phones at school (Kiema). The teachers that agree with students having cell phones in the classroom think it will help motivate the students to learn. The applications that are installed on mobile phones or mobile devices can be used as learning tool for students. It can also help the students engage more in the classroom and with other students. “Cell phones can also be used to help individuals cheat on exams because of their small size and access to endless information. The increased pressure to do well on tests makes this seem like a viable option” (Brown). There are a lot of students that uses their cell phones to look up information when taking a test (Miners). Also, they use their cell phones to ask a friend the answer to a question if they do not know it. Most students do not think there is anything wrong with using their cell phones while taking a test during class or sharing information with their classmates (Miners). Some students will do anything to make sure they get good grades in school in order to compete with their friends. Another reason why cell phones should not be allowed at school is because it allows students to use the phone inappropriately. Students may focus on what is going on around them instead of what is being taught in the classroom (Concordia Online Education). The cell phone can be used to mistreat, harass, or cause mental and physical harm to other students (Brown). Also, it can be used to make prank calls to other people during class.
