In 1823 President Monroe stated that any foreign country that intervened with american politics or policies were a potential hostile nation against america. In 1831 to 1832 Alexis de Tocqueville tested this Monroe Doctrine when he and a close friend observed america. As they observed american penitentiaries, they also observed the american democracy noting many things that would better france, but also pointed out many errors that could lead to corrupt powers leading america just as in Britain or France. Even though two guys from France critiqued the nation 's democracy, americans began to support their country and have great faith in it. Since times changed so did ideas of one 's ways to run a country. Radical changes led to creating a new party, one that was backed by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. This party supported slavery and the south and did not see eye to eye with President Jackson. Another result of American growth pains was the Missouri Compromise. The compromise allowed missouri to join the union as a slave state if Maine could join the union as a free state. This helped to ensure a healthy balance between slave and non slave states in the Union. One final way that the United States benefitted from the growing pains was the creation of a new, american textbook and dictionary. This allowed for america to be set apart from the British no longer purchasing british influenced books and dictionaries. Thanks to Noah Webster, the american language was transformed into a english derived language with over 65,000 words in its time. These modifications to the english language created new words, or modified the spelling of the queen 's
