70-80% of people with poor reading skills are most likely to have dyslexic. One in five students of the population, has a language based learning disability. Nearly the same percentage of males and females have dyslexia. There is no exact cause of Dyslexia, it just so happen to genetically passed down. The National Center for Learning Disabilities says that dyslexia is a neurological and often genetic condition that can be passed down in families. 40 percent of the siblings of a person with Dyslexia might have similar reading impairments. A child with Dyslexia is not the result of poor teaching, instruction, or upbringing. This reading disability does not stop people from understanding complex, in many cases the person would just need more time to work through the information. Booth and Burman found that people with dyslexia have less gray matter in the left parietotemporal area than non-dyslexics. Since gray matter processing information, having less gray matter in the parietotemporal area could lead to problems processing the sound structure of language. In 2005, researchers found that many people with dyslexia have less white matter than average readers. White matter is responsible for transferring information around the brain, having less white matter could result in the regions not communicating with one another. Hemispherical asymmetry on going research shows that right-handed dyslexics pattern of asymmetry in the other direction, meaning the right side of the brain is bigger than the left side.
