GELLIFIED EMULSION FOR SUSTAIN DELIVERY OF ASPIRIN AS ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
INTRODUCTION
Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammation drug (NSAID). It widely use as analgesic in treating mild to moderate pain such as injury, headache, arthritis, menstrual cramp and other musculoskeletal condition. Aspirin is an ester of salicylic acid, while after ingestion it will undergoes hydrolysis which produce salicylic acid and acetic acid. Salicylic acid can induce irritation in lining of stomach which can cause bleeding even in normal dosage. Other side effects are nausea, vomiting and dizziness when taking orally.
In order to eliminate these adverse effects of aspirin, the development of transdermal …show more content…
DRUG EVALUATION
Physical Examination The prepared emulgel will inspect visually by their colour, homogeneity, consistency and phase separation pH pH evaluation of 1% prepared aqueous emulgel will measure by using digital pH meter with calibrate with standard buffer solution. pH of emulgel adjust to 6 to 6.5 by using triethanolamine.
Rheological studies The viscosity of emulgel formulation is determine at room temperature using cone and plate viscometer with spindle 52 and connected to a thermostatically controlled circulating water bath.
Swelling index Swelling index of emulgel formulation is determine by put on 1 gram of prepared emulgel on aluminum foil and place into a beaker containing 10 ml of 0.1M NaOH.
Microbiological studies. This study used to evaluate bacteriostatic or fungistatic activity of compound which mainly applied for semisolid formulation. It is mainly applied for semisolid. Three grams of emulgel are placed in Sabouraud’s agar dried plate. Then culture loops are streaked across the agar from right angle of ditch plate to the edge of plate. Then, incubate for 18 to 24 hours at 25°C and observe percentage inhibition of fungal growth using formula
