Secretory Immunoglobulin A or IgA is found in high levels in colostrum. Secretory IgA “guards against invading germs by forming a protective layer on the mucous membranes in your baby 's intestines, nose, and throat” (“How Breastfeeding”). A few days after the baby is born, the colostrum turns into mature breast milk that will start to come into the breasts. The difference between the two types of milk is very obvious. Colostrum is a yellow color, and the human body does not create very much of it because it is so packed with vitamins. Mature human breast milk is white and there is a lot more of the mature milk when it comes in. Breast milk is hands down the best thing that a baby can be ingesting. Human breast milk has all the right vitamins, minerals, along with other nutrients for an infant to take in. Breast milk is “significantly decreasing risk for a large number of acute and chronic diseases” (“Breastfeeding”).
