Even from the early development of the usefulness of education during the enlightenment, education gave mobility to the people who had access to it (Jacob, 2001). I want to use that information to not repeat the mistakes of the past. For instance, the incidents leading up to the defunding of the Head Start program in Prince George’s county. Serve acts of physical abuse lead up to the program being reevaluated and finally defunded. One instance included a child crying and being so ill supervised that they were able to leave the school and walk home. “According to the report, the child was unsupervised for about 50 minutes, and Head Start did not know where she was for about 75 minutes” (Wilkins 2016). That in order for students to interpret and understand the material and in order for the teachers to communicate it effectively, they must convey it in a relatable way (Proven, 2006). This is a fundamental reminder that I experienced and hope to practice myself, is what makes a great teacher is someone that is willing to adapt and work to the advantage to the student.
