The earliest style of blues music was country blues and was performed with instruments such as a guitar, banjo, or piano. Sometimes country blues was performed with harmonicas and even drums. When the blues started to spread out to cities such as Chicago and Detroit, other instruments got added to the mix and those instruments are instruments we use to distinct blues from other genres today. Instruments that are commonly used in the blues today are guitars, harmonicas, piano, bass, and drums. An artist that made an impact on the genre of blues due to heavily incorporating the use of guitar is Jimi Hendrix.

Jimi Hendrix’s sound was rooted in blues but blended various sounds and in a way created his own genre. Hendrix pioneered new musical technologies, styles, and techniques which helped lay the foundation for new musical genres. He paved the way for other electric blues musicians so that they could find their own styles. Jimi Hendrix is also one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century, even though his mainstream career lasted for only four
