Canine donors should be restricted to a DEA 1.1 negative (-) blood type. DEA 1.1 negative (-) recipient canines should never receive DEA 1.1 positive (+) blood. Recipient canine who are DEA 1.1 positive (+) may receive either DEA 1.1 negative or positive blood.1 Blood typing and crossmatching is essential for all animal transfusions, including but not limited to canines.
