To summarize, substance dualism is the idea that both the mental and the physical exist. Both the mental and the physical are separate of one another and are independent of one another. To believe in the idea of an afterlife (I believe in an afterlife) I believe that one must believe in substance dualism to a certain extent. The “soul” or the mental substance is what continues to live on after the bodily or physical substances death. Physical substances, like are bodies, do not have thoughts but the mental substances like are minds do! The human mind (mental substance) is different from the human brain (physical substance). When a person dies the human brain (physical substance) is buried but the human mind (mental substance) lives on.
