When I was young in Mastic Beach, we spent Saturday mornings on the porch eating pancakes made by mom and naming all the birds that flew by. When I was young in Mastic Beach, the scent of paint lingered on dads clothes as he taught me how to make the images in my head appear on the canvas in front of me. The clay he brought home already sculpted into figures and applauded no matter how unrecognizable they actually were. When I was young in Mastic Beach, we made frequent trips to the beach at sunset and stayed well into the night, not caring about the mosquito bites that littered our bodies.…
Harsh morning light invaded his eyes blinding him. When they readjusted he saw an ocean sprawled out in front of him. The gentle waves crashed down on the white sand rhythmically. He found it mesmerizing. It had been a while since he had time to appreciate nature's beauty.…
At the crack of dawn, I wake up, trying to be as quiet as possible, intensely rummage through the refrigerator. While the sun taunts me with a beautiful spectrum of crisp orange and bright pinks creeping over the horizon, I hurry to leave my grandmother’s beach house and head over to the serene beach. On my way toward the water, dogs are seen in the distance playing in the cool sand and sticking their paws in the salty water. In addition, from laying their eggs in the sand, are long sand trails from horseshoe crabs. Finally reaching the water, I sit down and observe the sun as it slowly creeps over the horizon until the many vibrant pinks and luminous orange rays turn into a solid golden beam of sunlight.…

About an hour later Henry awoke to realise he was inches away from a cliffside. The cliffside over Redcar Beach. Henry was sobered up and began to remember his experience in the pub. Then he remembered Sylvester sitting there listening, playing dumb. Henry was angry but became overwhelmed with fear of what his was doing on a cliff in a moonless night.…
When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…
In the third grade, my Dad and I drove home from a birthday party for one of his fellow police officers. The festive and upbeat night took a turn for the worst when we reached the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Robert Road in Redondo beach; we had unexpectedly struck the back fender of a truck and spun out into the center of the intersection. As I sat in disbelief, my Dad spoke to the other driver and they exchanged information. He drove home with a sullen look that was new to me, we didn't say a word. At home, I sobbed as I overheard my Dad stress to my Mom that he would lose his beloved job.…
In my current job at The Beachouse I was hired as a summer casual 2 years ago and was one of very few selected to stay on after the summer casual period ended. From my experience of working at The Beachouse I have had to deal with a diverse range of people and confrontation. Some being quite negative and I think that its in these moments that I am able to handle myself well and make good decisions. I consider myself good at talking to customers and having a positive attitude. I believe I am a good leader and have shown this through being a sports day captain in year 12 (last year) and also through being a netball coach this year.…
My watch says 9:45 am as I get to work. I took off my sandals as I reached the sand. I strolled across the searing sand as I looked at the shimmering water. The morning fog was slowly burning away as the sun gleamed fierier. The blue lifeguard tower sat high and mighty overlooking the beach.…
After five days of nervous energy, at last, Malcolm is here in my apartment. I’ve uncorked a bottle of wine and prepared pasta with pecorino cheese and sausage for dinner. I pour two glasses of wine while he talks of how great it felt to drive the coast route. Something he hasn’t done in a while. And that he would have arrived earlier.…
During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…
The beach is great to look at. This paper will include information about a beach’s pretty white sand, gorgeous blue oceans, and clear baby blue skies. Walking along the beach , I can see smooth sand beneath my feet. The grainy texture underneath me as I walk toward the big blue ocean. With each step I take, looking…
Approaching the crest of the dune with palpable expectation, I glimpsed the height of the swell, curling around the horizon. My thoughts became muted as I whisked down the path with my board clanging against my side. Strapping in, I was soon drifting down the beach inches at a time, my feet dangling numb to the hypothermic waters. As the sun was just a few hours from setting into the waving seagrass, thoughts became gradually amplified as a feared local was anticipated to arrive; the illuminating glimpses of stray rocks beneath the lulling surface assured me there was nothing lurking beneath. I had commenced with my usual, self-taught execution of faceplants into the wave’s breaking face when I heard the scattered remains of a shout amid the seaweed saturated seaspray.…
Blue waves that ripped and tore each other apart. Blue skies that had not completely lost all of the sunrise color. Blue in every direction I looked. In that moment time had stopped. I was barely aware of my family and other beach-goers.…
Each year, a pilgrimage to the Florida or Alabama gulf coast is a highly anticipated and enjoyed event for my family. In the beginning, it was just my wife and I. Man oh man, these trips were some of the most relaxing times that I can remember. Now, our yearly “beach fest” includes our two children, Kaylee and Garrett. While this is still a wonderful family event, I no longer use the phrase “relaxing”. Elbert Hubbard once said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who just had one”.…
