• Individuals who meet the criteria: 2 o Being extremely shy, o Inhibited in new situations, o Fearful of disapproval and social rejection.
• Their fear of rejection is so overwhelming that is affects all aspects of their lives

- Avoids occupational activities that might lead to fears of criticism, disapproval, or rejection
- Is unwilling to get involved with people unless the patient knows they like him/her
- Shows complete restraint within intimate relationships
- Preoccupied with being criticized or rejected in other people
- Becomes inhibited in new interpersonal situations due to feelings of inadequacy
- See themself as personally unappealing, socially inept, or inferior to others
- Does not engage in personal risks or new activities becaue they might lead to embarrasment o Social anxiety disorders are often associated with other family members, a family psychiatric history might be required
