“For many students with disabilities to be successful learners in the general education curriculum, they must receive supplementary aids and services” (Dyal, A., Carpenter, L. B., & Wright, J. V, 2010). Students that receive these supplementary aids and services excel and improve in their general education classes. The assistive technology is programed to access the general education curriculum for academic, social, and extra-curricular activities (Dorman, S. 2011 P.1). The benefits to supplementary aids to a child with disabilities is to keep them motivated to push them toward success. Without the access of supplementary aids some children with disabilities get anxiety and may not want to do their work that is assigned in the classroom because there being pushed too hard to participate. The negative effect of a child not getting the proper tools to keep them on track with the other kids in the classroom can result in: Failing the school year, no participation in the class, anxiety, tantrums and not learning the curriculum material.
