Through logic and emotion, the author clearly presents their favoring perspective on combining the youth and elders. The liveliness in the children frees the residents from their often dull and non-active schedules. While both ends of the spectrum are receiving knowledge from one another, it varies depending on who is guiding who. For example, the youth is teaching the older generation more about technology and the capability it has in today’s world. The elders also become more active which is always a plus even if it simply means a stroll outside or a game of hide and go seek around the house. This statement seems valid but does not take into consideration what some older people can and cannot do depending on their health status and other components. On the other hand, the author reasons that the kids are taking away from the “elders serving as role models for the children growing into tomorrow’s adults” (Adams, 2015, para.3). This topic is relevant in today’s world because it greatly impacts two generations that are on completely different sides of the age spectrum. The positive engagement the interaction provides could assist typical nursing homes in decreasing the mental decline and health of their elderly residents and elders outside of nursing homes as well.
