They tend to believe that the medicinal use of marijuana is a hoax, and has more to do with legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes rather than medical. The opposition towards medical marijuana is unfortunate because it has significant medicinal value. On the bright side, many organizations publicly support the medicinal cannabis movement. The medical marijuana movement has its sights set on helping people with serious illnesses and disabilities, and is not concerned with decriminalizing or legalizing cannabis for recreational use in its efforts to legalize it for those who need it. Cannabis has significantly improved the quality of life of people with cancer, AIDS, arthritis, and many other diseases causing chronic pain. The different ways marijuana may be used are by smoking, eating, and inhaling the vapor given off by cannabis. Lotion, oils, sprays, and creams are also produced from marijuana extract for patients who would rather apply this medication directly to the skin, rather than inhale or ingest it. Edibles, a form of ingesting marijuana, can be made by mixing in ground marijuana with butter or oil which is then used to bake or cook food. The disadvantage of edibles is that it takes longer to produce the effects than other forms of consumption; however, edibles have a more lasting effect and a stronger one as well. The most common form of marijuana use is smoking it as one would smoke tobacco. Patients who are prescribed marijuana mainly use bongs and pipes, as they are the simplest ways to smoke. An alternative to smoking is simply inhaling the vapor, rather than smoke, from marijuana extract. Vaporizers extract the therapeutic parts of the plant, called cannabinoids. Patients prefer this method due to the absence of the burning sensation that is present when marijuana is smoked
