This page allows users to change their Facebook profile picture to have a rainbow overlay as to support “All people are equal”. According to washingtonpost.com, there are more than 26 million people who supported the movement and changed their Facebook profile picture to rainbow color. People used to look down on people with same sex preference, and this causes a hierarchy where straight people are “better” than LGBT community because they cannot marry the people they loved. This causes them to have a lower self esteem and tries to hide their sexual orientation. So, the law being passed helps to give them an equal identity to the straight people. The second part of improving one’s identity is that some people from the LGBT community consider marriage as their final goal in relationship, which is the same as the straight people. This is based on an interview I had with one of my friend. He mentioned that to him it is definitely a positive thing, as he can finally consider marriage as the ending goal in his relationship.
