“I take the view that anything you can do to relieve suffering or improve human health will usually be widely accepted by the public - that is to say, if cloning actually turned out to be solving some problems and was useful to people, I think it would be accepted.” (Gurdon, John). Here are just two of the differing stances many of the general public hold in regards to Cloning. As of late, the subject of cloning has become a hotly debated topic. Rapid scientific advances are being made constantly in this promising and expansive field. Scientists actively working on cloning are ecstatic about the promises cloning seems to be able to fulfill: a cure for Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, …show more content…
There are three major types of cloning taking the scientific world by storm. The first type of cloning is genetic cloning, a practice that has been employed for quite some time. The process is comprised of inserting a gene from one organism into the genetic material of a carrier. This type of cloning is by far the least controversial. The second type of cloning is reproductive cloning. This method of cloning involves taking a cell, extracting its DNA and using it to create a genetically identical individual in a dish and inserting this newly synthesized embryo into a female’s uterus. The implantation process of reproductive cloning is the same method used in in vitro fertilization. On the other hand, therapeutic cloning involves keeping the newly created embryo in a dish in the lab. Therapeutic cloning promises many medical advances and the possibility of finding cures for many as of yet incurable diseases. It is however not a perfect solution as it does not come without major
