Abortion should be legal because a women has the right to do what she wants with her body. The state should not dictate what a women should do with her own body. When abortion was illegal, women still found places where it could be done. Since abortion became legal in 1973, up until 2014, 54 million legal abortions happened. With such a variety of arguments and beliefs, it makes abortion such a controversial topic. Pro abortion arguments constantly revolve around major points such as the one of the most important, abortion is a fundamental right. Also, the question whether when a fetus is considered a person and when they have rights that should be protected. Mothers who are denied abortion are most likely to have economic struggles and being on welfare, food stamps, and below the poverty line. Some of what people might not acknowledge is besides the mother not wanting a child, it's also a huge responsibility. Financially, mentally, and physically if a the women cant handle or raise a child, wouldn't it be unfair for the child if it didn't get the proper childhood as if it came from a mother who really wanted the child? On a less personal note, illegal abortions can also increase the rate of crime for all the women getting illegal procedures
