Personal Statement
Pages full of ink, bold letters, pictures and numbers are the first things, I remember seeing. It feels like I came out of my mother's womb with a book in my right hand and glasses in the left. These pages full of adventures, bright ideas and news articles became a major part of my life. The books made me more knowledgeable about the world around me, but sometimes I still needed a little more assistance from one of my younger siblings to bring me back to reality. I have 5 siblings, with the next sibling only a year younger than me. Friends and schoolmates always thought we were joined at the hip. Even when we were in elementary school, Ar'Mir looked out for me, from tying my shoes when he was in kindergarten and I was in first grade, but didn't know how to tie them. He and I shared an unbreakable bond that no book could ever give.
There were times where I wished I was reading a book, but instead I had to listen to my brother watch Blue's Clues. It was my first year of middle school and I didn't know how much I unconsciously depended on him. Walking through those doors alone was so terrifying, but it had a huge impact on me, it made me stronger and brave. Knowing that I won't always have him right by my side, made me more independent than I originally thought I was.

Today, I still remain independent and am becoming more independent by not having my little brother at my hip; it has helped prepare my transition into young adulthood that will carry over into everyday life experiences.
