Anti-microbials differ not only in their action and activity but also in their distribution and metabolization and excretion by the body. Antimicrobial medicines are normally grouped according to the microorganisims they act primarily against. Identification of the disease causing agent is essential for anti-microbial therapy . (Dasari Srilakshmi et al ; 2016 )
Tal sindoor has a broad spectrum anti–microbial activity against Gram positive, Gram negative bacteria and as well against fungi. Antimicrobial activity of the drug Tal Sindoor can be tested in 2 methods i.e. Gradient plate technique and Kirby-bauer method.
Tal Sindoor has an effective anti-microbial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans. But K. pneumoniae and A. Baumannii are resistant to Tal Sindoor like they are with other …show more content…
Above mentioned cultures are uniformly spread on to the plates containing the media using cotton swabs. 100 mg of Tal Sindoor is dissolved in 1ml of methanol and 2ml of water. Sterile discs soaked in the suspension of Tal Sindoor for 10 minutes and dried are placed on the previously swabbed petri plates. Later the plates have to be incubated at 37oC for 24 hours. After 24 hours of incubation the plates can be checked for the formation of inhibition zone.
Tal Sindoor is found to be effective anti-microbial agent as per both the methods that is Gradient Plate Technique for presence or absence of anti-microbial activity and in Kirby-Bauer activity measured as Zones of Inhibition (Z.O.I). Tal Sindoor is effective against 5 microbes. K. pneumoniae and A. baumannii are found to be resistant to Tal Sindoor, as per both the methods .
