With the exertion of impulse directed upon the the body through a mental image pictured in one's mind, body anomalies can begin to occur. It can begin with the image of a woman in a magazine to set off an atomic bomb in the mind. “But I have fat there.” And “Her legs don’t touch.” Or “The only way I’ll ever look good in that is if I look like her.” These thoughts are what lead to numerous mental illnesses, two of them more socially related: anorexia nervosa and bulimia. The anorexic “perfect and fragile little girl” facade and the bulimic “elusive and perfect woman” facade, makes them one of the most difficult populations to recognize and treat (Landau). When associated with anorexia nervosa, an individual concludes that by not consuming food at all, they can achieve the “perfect” body image. The lack of nutrition can cause many physical problems to occur. This disorder has been occurring at a rapidly increasing rate in this country over the last ten years (Landau). For most people, depression is caused by an imbalance of chemicals, or hormones, in the body (Ayer). Depression is closely related will other mental illnesses such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and schizophrenia. In most cases, this can actually be where other mental illnesses begin to form. Approximately twenty percent of teens suffer from depression (PyschCentral). In cases of severe depression, an individual can inflict self harm on themselves and ultimately end up dying. Depression can cause many other health impurities from forming. If untreated, it can worsen and worsen and the patient involved could actually turn
