When I read through this, I found that Lincoln had used the Constitution, a pro-slavery document, to help his cause against slavery. This document helped me see what Lincoln was thinking instead of what people thought 70 years before then. I’m going to use this source in my paragraph on Lincoln’s reasons to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, because of the fact it let me know what he thought about the subject. Archive, Donald J. This is from an abolitionist newspaper called The Liberator. Its point of view is the writer William Lloyd Garrison, who was an abolitionist. Even though it was coming from an abolitionist, It gave an idea for all the different beliefs going around the Civil War.
"Abraham Lincoln's Letter to Horace Greeley." NetINS Showcase. Web. 08 May 2011. .
This letter to Horace Greeley shows Lincoln’s view on slavery. First, he says that he is anti-slavery and would abolish it if it ever became necessary to. He goes on to say that he is doing it to save the Union, not to free the slaves. He said he doesn’t want it come to that, and he is going to try to follow the guidelines he gave himself. This will help me in the paragraphs about Lincoln’s reasons and Why issuing it took so long. This source was one of the most helpful to me just because of the major points it hit to help with my topic.

I was able to visualize the information I had already gathered. This will help me write a more vivid, true to reality paper on what times were like back then.

When I read this, I found out that Lincoln did not really have all of the same beliefs as any other abolitionist. I learned that Lincoln did not really believe that African Americans were as good as white people. This helped me learn more about slavery and Emancipation, and will help me write a better introduction to my paper.
Guelzo, Allen C. "The Great Event of the Nineteenth Century: Lincoln Issues the Emancipation Proclamation." Pennsylvania Legacies 4.2 (2004). JSTOR. Web. 24 Apr. 2011. .
This is an article out of a journal called Pennsylvania Legacies. I read that Lincoln sometimes couldn’t deal with slavery because it was a part of the Constitution. If he issued the emancipation proclamation abolishing slavery, then slaveholders would be in federal courts, suing them, and they would end up in the Supreme Court. This source will help me write my paragraph on why it took so long to issue the Emancipation Proclamation because it told me some of the problems that happened while trying to do
