Anne Casey created her nursing model known as Casey’s model of nursing or partnership in care in 1988. The main point in her model of nursing is to emphasize “that nursing care for a child in the hospital can be given by the child or parents with support and education from the nurse and that family or parental care can be given by the nurse if the family is absent”(Shields, 2002). The parents in Casey’s model are working with the nurses in a sort of tag team or coaching care plan. This type of model is an on going influence and it is still being used today in many hospitals involving children with cancer, other diseases, and disorders. It is an evolving model that will continue to grow and impact every patient, family, and nurse taking care of a child. In my opinion, Anne Casey’s model of nursing is a huge impact on the nursing profession and I would have never known that she was the one who created the patient-family care plan when involving a child. I believe this type of relationship is extremely important because you are helping a child get better and are also having the emotional connection to a family. When families see progress, it is priceless. It has to be a truly rewarding job when you see a child start to feel healthier through your assistance in their care through their parents.
