Animal Testing When we talk of animal testing, let set our limitations to animals experiments that are (a) harmful, which makes animals worse than they were whether physically or psychologically, and (b) nontherapeutic, which not intended to benefit the animal itself. Nobody likes the idea of suffering in the name of testing cosmetics but it is harder to condemn scientists who used animals to research cures for Alzheimer’s or a vaccine against polio, mumps, rubella and hepatitis. Although animal experiments have played a crucial role in the development of modern medical treatments and continue to be necessary as researchers seek to alleviate existing ailments …show more content…
This is performed to determine if the medicine is effective and efficient in a faster way, and while minimizing the risk to humans. In most cases they are attempting to find harmful side effects of a chemical or drug, and hope that reactions in animals can be accurately scaled to humans. Many people embrace the philosophy of Jeremy Bentham’s Act Utilitarianism which is concerned only with good intentions and positive energy and disregarded the negative effects on the animals. We are obliged to do these painful and harmful acts to animals for the benefit of human lives and well-being that are derived from animal testing. According to Dr. Myrtani Pieri, only 0.3% of animals are killed for medical purposes while 99.7% are killed for clothing, food, entertainment. Thus, it is better to use animals for experimentations than to be eaten or wear. According to the foundation for biomedical research, vaccines for polio, mumps, rubella and hepatitis were developed with the help of animal research. The medical benefits of animal research are substantial and even though there are alternatives such as tissue culture, it is not satisfactory for …show more content…
Animal testing is cruel and an inhumane way to torture animals for human benefit. A research is justified if the researcher has a clear scientific purpose of the research and through Animal Welfare legislation and Animal Rights movement, a strict set of standards must be adhered. Animals have the right to reproduce and pass on your genes, the right to liberty and the right to not to be forced to suffer for the gain of others. Just like other animals, animal subjects must be well cared and no unnecessary cruel experiments are applied. Animals should never be abused or degraded and should be treated with more respect because God created animals just as He created humans. Just putting an animal anesthesia does not get rid of the ethical wrongness. They deserve to be cared for to have some rights. No animal deserves to have his or her life purpose be to give his or her life unknowingly for science. The unfavorable aspects outweigh the favorable aspects of animal testing in that animals suffer, are unable to give consent about the abuse the animals are put through, and only some of the testing done on animals is effective. The negative parts of animal testing outweighs the positive parts of animal testing and therefore animal testing should be put to a complete halt in
