The Bank War all started when a recharter was issued for the “second” national bank. An economic shift also occurred in this time period and cause corporations to form. The problem was that the national bank was controlled by unelected private citizens (but supervised by Congress) and they were determining fiscal policy between borders. According to “Andrew Jackson’s Bank Veto Message To Congress,” the bank was not government run which meant the rich were using their the bank to their advantage. Andrew noticed that they were gaining a lot of power and wanted to prevent the bank from gaining anymore. He decided to veto the charter that was issued for the second national bank. Although many people were unhappy with his decision, little did they know he did it for their own good. After that he began to take money from the national bank and placed it in numerous state banks. He did this so the national bank and the wealthy began to lose its power. For example, Nicholas Biddle (third president of the national bank) tried to show America that they needed the national bank. So he disrupted the credits within the states and tried to cause a crisis. This ended up backfiring on Nicholas and proving Andrew Jackson’s point about how the national bank has become too powerful. It is true that Jackson was bias against banks in the first place, but the bank had too much power that shouldn’t be held in the hands of unelected/irresponsible people.
