Pyramids and Egypt go hand in hand together, the mystic of a giant pyramid fascinates many people, but what adds to the mystic is why they were built. Pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs and their families. This was done so the family could serve the Pharaoh in the afterlife. But Egypt is much more than just Pyramids, they have a struggling economy, a fascinating rural life, and one of the biggest media markets in all of Africa. Egypt’s economy in a since, is like some of the pyramids very weak and unstable.
Egypt’s economy is one of the worst and most unstable in the world, one of the main reasons is “it’s economy suffers from the fact that only 5% of the land is arable” ( Egypt : County Overview np.) therefor crop prices increase. It becomes increasingly difficult to buy anything, much less pay a king’s ransom for a loaf of bread or cob of corn, when there are no jobs, “Egypts’ unemployment rate soared to 13.4% in 2013” ( Egypt : Country Overview np). Despite all of that, “Egypt’s population is growing by 1.4 million each year, which makes jobs very sacred” ( Egypt: Country Overview np). Classical music of Egypt “is one of Arab origin and therefore uses the main Arabic Instruments: the oud (lute), the qanun ( a special string instrument), the nai (flute), the violin, the tabla (hand drum) and the tambourine.”( Karlson 83). Egypt also has modern music that is heavily influenced by western culture. Along with it’s music, Egypt is a leading producer of Arabic television and movie productions, “most of them are centered around Arabian culture and religion” (Karlsson 86).
