Based on above objections, I find it difficult to accept the view to identify the two witnesses as expression of biblical concepts.
Individuals
The literalist believes that the two witnesses will be actual people who will appear in the final days. There are a number of proposals as to the identity of the two witnesses, such as Elijah and Moses, Elijah and Enoch, Elijah and John the Baptist, Elijah and John the Apostle, Peter and John etc. and there is also proposal for two unknown persons who will minister in the spirit and power of Moses and Elijah in the future. This topic alone is a good research project. For the sake of the focus of this paper, I will not go into the detail discussion. However, I will discuss a few of the most popular proposals.
- Enoch and Elijah Early Christians, such as Hippolytus of Rome and Tertullian have concluded that the two witnesses would be Enoch and Elijah. The reason is that these prophets did not die because God "took" them according to other Biblical passages. One difficulty for this proposal is that failure of Enoch to match the criteria assigned to the two witnesses in
