The Silent Killer: Lethal Injection
In reading this paper one will be able to acquire knowledge about lethal injection, its history, major cases that lethal injection applies to, stats on the number of cases in Florida that have used lethal injection, and lastly the author of this papers general thought on lethal injection and why it’s a good form of punishment. Lethal injection has been known to be the main form of capital punishment used in many states and that reason being is because it is seen as the most humane way of punishment in the result of crimes. ("Breaking News, Analysis, Politics, Blogs, News Photos, Video, Tech Reviews - TIME.com," 2009) stated “lethal injection is the less painful way to execute individuals for their indecencies towards the law and other parties”. This particular method of punishment has not always been the most popular form throughout time, specifically with the Supreme Court. Virginia, an individual by the name of Daryl Atkins and his associate were convicted of murder and Daryl Atkins was sentenced with the result of capital punishment with the result that there were records indicating that he was mentally retarded. There was an appeal made on Daryl’s behalf stating that the method of legal injection would be considered being as though Daryl was mentally retarded. The Supreme Court honored the appeal and reversed the sentence stating that it was a violation of the 8th amendment given that Daryl was mentally retarded and could not actually stand trial for that particular
