INTRODUCTION
Among periodontal surgeries, osseous resective surgeries are expected to have the most postoperative pain.(1) Patients complain of pain, swelling, and trismus are the factors that most negatively affect their quality of life after surgery(2), therefore patient compliance may become compromised during the postoperative period.(3)
Most dentists prescribe NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) to prevent and treat postoperative pain; (4, 5) but Gastrointestinal complications and platelet dysfunction are the most common side effects of using these kinds of painkillers.(6, 7)

Patients with uncontrolled systemic diseases who could not undergo such surgeries, patients who only suffered from gingivitis and the ones with preemptive dental or maxillofacial pain were rulled out from the study. Before proceeding, the whole procedure was explained to the patients in detail and their informed consent was obtained.
Each of the 45 patients was scheduled to undergo pocket reduction surgery bilaterally; the two surgeries being performed in two separate sessions at least 10 days apart. The surgery was always conducted by the same qualified operator. In each individual, one surgery was completed while, using the Aloe vera-Green tea mouthwash, the other being considered as a control; the order of the two surgeries was randomly assigned by flipping of a coin. Surgical pack was not placed in the area of surgery to obtain the highest effectiveness of the mouthwash. For the treatment arm, patients had to rinse their mouth with 15ml of herbal mouthwash twice a day (one in the morning and one in the evening) for a period of 10 days after each surgery. Herbal mouthwash was a mixed 10-75% Aloe vera-Green tea extract
