As social beings, people possess behavior which makes up the subject matter of sociology. According to Giddens and Griffiths, sociology is the study of the social lives of humans, groups, and societies (4). Sociology cultivates people’s imagination by explaining human nature and the reasons behind individual and collective actions. In this regard, a sociologist is a social scientist who gives a wider context to personal circumstances as he or she studies institutions and the growth of human society.
According to Mooney, Knox, and Schacht, social problems are a combination of objective and subjective elements that vary depending on individuals, groups, and societies (2). In an intoxicated state, I can act more spontaneously. These emotions empower me to act in a way that I cannot do when sober. I refer to alcoholism as a social problem because it is a deviant behavior that causes me to have social conflicts with my family, since my family disapprove of my drinking since it is against our religion. In this regard, it is more than a private concern because it not only affects me but everybody around me. My dedication to alcohol causes me to misuse money. When the money runs out, I borrow more money from my friends. I usually get desperate and start to ask my parents for money and make up excuses of how I've spent it . At times, I feel the temptation to steal from my friends. Such behavior can easily lead into a life of crime.
