When you smell something rotten, your perception receives a message from the cortex and it starts to adjust. All sensory messages will be processed by perception. An interesting fact that I didn’t know about was that a sensory can send a message to the perception, and it can make you have a memory of something in the past, or remind you of a certain smell that an old family member wore. Then we finally come to cognition, when it comes to cognition you are processing knowledge and understand through thought, personal experiences, and the…
One of the most famous leaders from the Apache tribe is Geronimo. After the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the Anglo-Americans set limits on where the Apaches could live. Geronimo and the Apache had other ideas. Geronimo was one of the most famous leaders from the one of the many Apache tribes. During the age of exploration, the spice trade was in full swing and European countries were searching for new trade routes to India that would make travel faster, easier, and less expensive. One of the reasons why exploration occurred at this point in history is because of their new technological prowess which enabled them to advance in their sailing abilities. The navigational compass was one of the many new inventions to emerge in the sailing industry. The emergence of new technology generated new wealth but it was the invention of the printing press that made it possible to spread new information faster than before. This created a sense of competition which led nations to push themselves to advance in technology and to create more national wealth.…
Many of us have watched or heard of the show The Office with Steve Carell portraying the manager of a paper company named Dunder Mifflin. The show is known for its dark humor, and in my example, this is no exception. In this episode, Michael Scott is warned by one of the personnel at Dunder Mifflin that the company is changing, and that if he does not do something they are going to get rid of the older staffs to get younger and “better” employees. So Michael decides to have a meeting with the personnel to teach them that “Ageism is illegal.” To prove this he invites one of the company’s founders who is eighty-seven years old, and instead of accomplishing his goal he ends up tumbling in what we would call negative stereotypes about older adults.…

Ageism “reflects a deep-seated uneasiness on the part of the young and middle-aged for growing old.” I both agree and disagree with this description. In my opinion there is so much prejudice about all age groups; teenagers, young adults, middle-age, and elderly. Middle-age and elderly may look at teenagers and young adults as rebels and too young and foolish to know what they want. While teenagers and young adults may look at older people as incapable to do things, and rude.…
Old adults enjoy good psychological health. They are adversely affected by mental health disorders and in functioning. Some late-life problems that result in depression and anxiety include coping with physical health problems, caring for a spouse with a physical disability, grieving the death of loved ones, and managing conflict with family members. Addressing these problems and treating these conditions results in decreased emotional suffering, improved physical health, lessened disability, and a better quality of life for older adults and their families. Aging Aging refers to a process of becoming older.…
The olfactory system, the sensory system contributing to the sense of smell, is often overlooked by the average person causing distortion as to how it functions, coupled with the gustatory system, to differentiate the different flavors in food which in turn allows us to classify food as delicious, good, unpleasant, or disgusting. In the other hand, the same can’t be said for the food industry, who spent numerous resources into understanding this specific sensory systems with the aim of engineering food that is to crave for with the intention of maximizing their profits. The ability for humans to identify flavors is caused by the signals sent to the brain by different receptors in the mouth and nose that interpret chemicals found within the…
