If you have a physical ailment like a broken foot, there’s no stigma attached. If someone were to ask you why you went to the doctor, there would be no embarrassment to say you had broken your foot. But. If you had been to a therapist's office, no one would ask, and if they did and you answered, “I got diagnosed with depression” you would be met with discomfort and most likely disbelief. Because of this stigma many cases of depression and anxiety go undiagnosed. Our healthcare system is geared toward treatment rather than prevention. Many times, the quick fix is thought of as the best fix. Which can be true, but not always. There has been a dramatic spike in the number of pills being prescribed to treat mental illnesses. These pills can be very helpful, but they don’t help you deal with whatever needs to be dealt with. They mask your illness, but as soon as the pills are taken away the veil is removed and your problems rise to the surface
