The motivation for African American feminist artist in the second wave of feminism is clearly defined. The central concern now is the contemporary definition of feminist art. The exploitation from social and mass media obscures the image of African American women. Therefore, the appearance of neglect among white feminist artists and African American male artists remains nebulous. Since some of these issues of being a feminist artist seem to exist in aloof and austere isolation from the concerns of African American women, this paper attempts to offer an explanation of these convictions.
Mixed research methods techniques are used to collect and gather information in this discourse. The first method is survey research by interviewing African American feminists artists. The artists range in different ages and stages in their career. The second method is the literature review of various African American artists, feminists, historians and educators through books, articles and journals. The third method used is an autoethnography of my personal experience as an African American female
