Every spring it’s time for High School students to decide which subjects they’re going to take the next year. Many High Schools have a wide spread possibility for their students to choose from, often there are many language possibilities, like French, Spanish, German... The students have to decide whether or not they will need to use the subject or language for their college application and profession. Almost every college requires two to three years of the same high school foreign language to qualify for admissions. Although many people have managed their lifes without knowing a foreign language, learning a second language brings many advantages.

Even politicians “take President Obama, for example, seem to manage their lifes quite well without foreign languages” (Carbonell). People who meet many people of different countries everyday and are standing in public are able to communicate with the people of the other countries without knowing the language, because there are many translators, who can translate for them. Considering there are many translators, there is no need for a particular person to learn a second language, Another fact is that “1.5 billion people [...] speak English as a second language”(Austin), so the 330 million people who speak English as their first language don’t have to learn a foreign language. Almost everybody speaks English, so there is no need for the people, whose first language is English to learn a foreign language.
