Quinn, we should have a tool box of techniques that we can utilize during counseling sessions. As a result, I will implement various techniques that are best suited for the situation. I will implement Carl Rogers Reality Therapy in every counseling sessions, which consists of the core conditions of counseling which are empathy, genuineness and unconditional acceptance. According to study, when a counselor is empathetic to their client and put themselves in their shoes or see the world through the client’s eyes it shows the client we care and understand what they are going through. Genuineness, to be real and the client should see straight through me and nothing hidden. In fact, clients can sense when a counselor is fake and lastly, unconditional acceptance. According to Rogers, more change can happen when unconditional acceptance occurs moreover, the client is able to acknowledge things in which she had never seen before. I have learned, encouraging the client can also promote growth. For instance, letting them know that I believe in them, I care for them, and my goal is to see them succeed. Additionally, there must be an environment that is climate, relaxed which, enables the client to be comfortable and open to discussion. It is most ideal for the connection between the counselor and the counselee to be positive. Moreover, the relationship builds trust and is considered the most important factor. Next, I would enforce various techniques known as ABC Technique, which, according to Dr. Quinn, includes the following, An Activating event, (what happen), B is the belief system (thinking problem) and last, C is the consequence of belief system. The Empty Chair technique, (Gesault, Role Play, additionally, takes care of unfinished business and the feelings of the past are expressed.
