Introduction: Research has shown that stimulant drugs and behavioral intervention are effective treatments for ADHD. In addition, randomized trials have demonstrated that medication management alone or in conjunction with behavioral intervention relieves ADHD symptoms more effectively than behavioral or community based treatments alone. Socioeconomic status has also been shown to moderate treatment response. However, research has had conflicting evidence regarding how socioeconomic status effects the efficacy of pharmacological treatment; one study showed no influence of SES on drug response whereas another study showed a positive correlation between …show more content…
Going further, household income showed strong correlation with 11 out of the 13 variables indicating that lower income was associated with poorer treatment response. Using regression, researchers showed significant triple interactions of Hollingshead Education scores with parent SNAP inattention and hyperactivity. In addition, medication management and combination treatment were not significantly different and were superior to behavioral treatment and community care. In more educated homes, the combination treatment was more effective and showed the largest benefit. Children from blue collar homes had the greatest efficacy in alleviating aggressive symptoms on the combination treatment whereas white collar families had negligible effect sizes. The Nakao Treas Occupation rankings moderated responses on the parent SNAP ODD sub scale mimicking results from the Hollingshead Occupation scale; the effect sizes were small to medium. For the Hollingshead Four Factor Index scores, there were significant triple interactions for the parent SNAP impulsivity scale and the parent SNAP ODD scale. It was surprising that the white collar children showed negligent effects on differential treatment for oppositional symptoms. In addition, it is interesting that white collar families show decreased parent SNAP aggression. It is also intriguing that medication management and …show more content…
On top of this, I thought that there was a great lack of documentation on contextual problems that may have served as confounding factors to treatment efficacy. Going further, the researchers neglected to document the parenting style of each
