The Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenants are affirmed and re-affirmed on a continued basis but the promises take years to be executed. While Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses obey God’s commands, they are almost never enriched with blessings in the present; they are blessed mostly instead with promises about the future.
God made numerous promises to Abraham such as blessing his offspring and telling Abraham that he would own land. “And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty… but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage” (Exodus 6:2-9). The main reason why God thought it was important to reveal himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was to make a covenant with Moses by informing him that he was going to deliver Moses’ people from their 400 years of bondage in Egypt. This promise is known as the Mosaic Covenant which is similar to what the Lord told Abraham, Isaac and Jacob many long years before. God told Moses how he promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob land and children when they obeyed his commands and that God would do the same for Moses.
