The mabo case was very significant in the land rights battle Mabo spiked progression and also inspired a lot of other groups to try and claim back their land.So much that it led onto two more major cases the first of these was the native title act.
The native title act was passed in 1933 and it replaced a 17th century doctrine of ‘terra nullius’ that means (no one 's land) Captain cook reached this assumption as his belief of settled land had solid house with clear boundaries/fences the law was put in place by the early settlers the native title act was a massive leap forwards.The native title act was put in place by the government to -

The land claimed by the Wik people who claimed title rights to an area overlapping the Wik claim included land where two leases had been issued by the Qld government. The wik people had to prove through historical documents that they deserved rights to the land.The case went in favour of the Indigenous Australians and was also a great advance in the land rights movement.But they weren 't trying to keep the people off their land they just wanted the government to know it 's their land therefore they aren 't in charge of the land the wik decisions was a great advancement making land rights claims a lot easier. ‘we don 't want to keep people off our land...we want the government to recognise we are the traditional owners’’(Denny Bowenda)
As result of the Mabo decision a lot of new policies and legislations have been made thanks to Eddie Mabo and all those involved in the early case.It hasnt just allowed land right claims to be easily made it has also created recignition for the Aboriganal people and how it was unfair how their land was taken.Thanks to Mabo there has been over one hundred and fourty one native title declarations.In the end i feel that Eddie Mabo played an enormous role in helping his people get liberation from the land that was unfairly taken from them on the white
