Ranging from producing fake stories, to purposely harming herself to manipulate others, Abigail constantly insists in taking down Elizabeth and ruining her name. She clearly has a feeling of disgust toward Elizabeth, and mentions multiple times throughout the story her hatred for Elizabeth. For example, Abigail states “It's a bitter woman, a lying, cold, sniveling woman, and I will not work for such a woman!” (11). Not only does Abigail assert her feelings toward Elizabeth, but she calls Elizabeth “it”, a quite disrespectful way to address a woman. Additionally, Abigail is responsible for inappropriate occurrences such as purposely stabbing herself with a needle and blaming Elizabeth then claiming Elizabeth harmed her through magic. The motive behind her actions appear because Abigail had an affair with John Proctor, Elizabeth’s husband, which resulted in the firing of Abigail and the tarnishing of her reputation. To revenge Elizabeth’s actions, Abigail drinks blood, which was a charm created by Tituba and which Abigail drinks in an attempt to kill Elizabeth. After the attempt to summon the evil spirit with Tituba, Abigail is caught and associated with the incident. Soon after she confesses to her actions and her name is cleared, she begins to form a plan to kill Elizabeth. Regardless of who it kills or how many people it causes difficulties to, Abigail will not stop for anything to get revenge. She has no regard for life and does not care who she affects. There are many cases where she is quick to falsely accuse someone else of a lie and deceive people such as the occurrence where she states “She made me do it! She made Betty do it!" (43). This is a perfect example of how she does not hesitate to lie and betray people she is close with, such as Tituba. Overall, there are many more illustrations of other influential lies brought up by Abigail spread throughout the novel but these in specific, accurately display how evil Abigail Williams can
