A few examples are the Orange-spotted filefish. They reside in coral reefs, with that being said, not only is the Orange-spotted filefish at very high risk due to climate change, but the coral reef is as well due to the warm waters in the ocean. Another example is Quiver tree. According to the article, the tree is unable to grow fast enough to keep up with all of the changes. Scholes said in chapter Four of the fifth IPCC report “that trees are the most vulnerable to rapid change.” The third example is the Polar Bears. The article states that sea ice is forming later in the fall and melting in early spring. Chief scientist for Polar Bears International, Steven Armstrup said, “As the Arctic sea ice retreats, polar bears have to exploit alternative food sources, such as on land. That is not the best alternative.” (http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2011/07/polar-bears/mcgrath-text) The fourth example is the Adelie Penguin. This species is affected almost in the same way as Polar Bears are. As the ice moves, the Adelie Penguin is at a loss to find food. With that being said, they have to migrate farther to find food. The fifth example is the North Atlantic Cod. The main cause is overfishing for this species. However, they usually make a comeback, according to Bob Scholes and Hans-Otto Portner. The last example is the Golden Toad species. The Golden …show more content…
“Trying to slow the rate of climate change is critical for the future of many species,” said Scholes and Portner.
